Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Head-Up Display (HUD) reports a problem.

Possible Causes:

  • Head-Up Flight Display Computer (HFDC) (A250)
  • Optical Projector Unit (OPU) (A251)
  • Head-Up-Display (HUD) Fan (B64)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is not displayed, go to step 3.
    2. If the fault message is displayed, continue with next step.

  2. Replace the Head-Up-Display (HUD) Computer. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a continuity check between the Head-Up Flight Display Computer (A250CP1) and the Optical Projection Unit (A251P1) as follows:

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If the there is continuity, continue with the next step.

  4. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is displayed, replace the head-up-display (HUD) electro-optical unit and do close out.
    2. If the fault message is not displayed, continue with next step.

  5. Perform the operational test of the head-up-display (HUD) system. Check if the result is satisfactory?

    1. If the result is satisfactory, do close out.
    2. If the result is not satisfactory, continue with next step.

  6. Check if the fault message "COMBINER OPERATIONAL POSITION NOT CORRECT" is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is displayed, check that the head-up-display (HUD) combiner unit is in the operational position and combiner mirror and the optical sensor are in good condition.
    2. If the fault message is not displayed, continue with the next step.

  7. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is not displayed, go to step 9.
    2. If the fault message is displayed, continue with next step.

  8. Perform a continuity check between the Head-Up Flight Display Computer (A250DP1) and the HUD Tray (B64P1) as follows:

    A250DP1-H5 B64P1-A
    A250FP1-8 B64P1-B
    GS1026 B64P1-C

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If the there is continuity, replace a head-up-display (HUD) fan and do close out.

  9. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is displayed, check that the part number between the head-up-display (HUD) computer and head-up-display (HUD) electro-optical unit agree.
    2. If the fault message is not displayed, continue with the next step.

  10. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is not displayed, go to step 12.
    2. If the fault message is displayed, continue with next step.

  11. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A250BP1-F4 A250EP1-G5
    A250BP1-G4 A250EP1-H5

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If the there is continuity, replace the head-up-display (HUD) computer and do close out.

  12. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault message is not displayed, go to step 14.
    2. If the fault message is displayed, continue with next step.

  13. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A250BP1-A4 A250EP1-A1
    A250BP1-A5 A250EP1-A2

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If the there is continuity, replace the head-up-display (HUD) computer and do close out.

  14. Check if the following fault message is displayed on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If the fault messages are not displayed, follow the instructions for the CAIMS - HUDC/WRG FAULT even if the CAIMS - HUDC/WRG FAULT message is not shown on the PMAT.
    2. If the fault messages are displayed, continue with next step.

  15. Perform the troubleshooting for the applicable fault message.
  16. Do close out.
