Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Overview:

Fault Message:

RAD/HUDC CONS FAULT

Fault Code:

3430020HUD

Associated CAS:

HUD MISCOMPARE
(Caution)

Reporting LRU: Head-Up Flight Display Computer (HFDC)
System Description: 34-32-00
Schematic Diagram: 34-32-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 34-32-03 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
34-32-04 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
34-44-01 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

Discrepancy between Radio Altitude data RA1 and RA2 as detected by the Head-Up Display Computer (HUDC). May be associated with HUD MISCOMPARE message when no HUD annunciation. Detection threshold is 10 feet (if RA less then 200 feet) and 20 feet (if 200< RA <1500 ft). May be associated with Amber Radar Flag on Pilot and Copilot Primary Flight Displays (PFDs).

Possible Causes:

  • Head-Up Flight Display Computer (HFDC) (A250)
  • Radio Altimeter (RAD ALT) 1 (A67)
  • Radio Altimeter (RAD ALT) 2 (A68)
  • Radio Altimeter (RAD ALT) Antenna

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

Before proceeding with troubleshooting, remember that while on ground radio altitude displayed values may be affected by the ground surface material or surrounding equipment near the antennas. If the condition is only present on ground, the aircraft may me moved to another location to monitor the effect.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Record the Radio altitude values on the Pilot and Copilot PFDs.

    1. If the difference is within the threshold and no Amber RAD Flag is posted on Pilot and Copilot PFD, go to step 4.
    2. If the difference is equal to or greater than the threshold (miscompare condition), continue with next step.

  2. Based on current aircraft altitude to determine either the pilot's radio altitude or the copilot's altitude is incorrect.
  3. Perform troubleshooting to the side (pilot or copilot) that gives incorrect or erratic radio altitude value on PFD.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  4. Replace HUDC.
  5. Do close out.
