These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

The signals from the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid, of the Fuel Control Unit, to the Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) are lower than the expected range. This shows a possible short in the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid.

  • Fuel Control Unit (A3)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is a damage, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If there is no damage, continue with next step.

  2. Check if the SHORT CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Examine the fuel control unit (A3) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If fuel control unit (A3) receptacle is contaminated or damaged, go to step 13.
    2. If fuel control unit (A3) receptacle is not contaminated or damaged, continue with next step.

  4. Check if the SHORT CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a continuity check between the fuel control unit (A3) (WM 49-12) as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    A3P1-A A3P1-B 18-20 ohms

    1. If resistance check fails, go to step 13.
    2. If the resistance checks are good, continue with next step.

  6. Check if the SHORT CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  7. Make sure there is no short between A3 receptacle A3P1-A and A3P1-B.

    1. If there is a short, go to step 13.
    2. If there is no short, continue with next step.

  8. Check if the SHORT CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  9. Make sure there is no short between A3P1-A and A3P1-B on the engine branched wiring-harness (A3P1) connector (WM 49-12).

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  10. Make sure there is no short between each pin 17 and 18 and connector shell of P1 (WM 49-12).

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  11. Check that there is no short between J802-17 and J802-18 on the aircraft wiring harness connector (WM 49-61).

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  12. Make sure there is no short between each pin 17 and 18, and the connector shell of J802 (WM 49-61).

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  13. Replace Fuel control unit (A3).
  14. Do close out.
