WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

The signals from the fuel shutoff solenoid, of the fuel control unit, to the Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) are higher than the expected range. This shows a possible open in the fuel shutoff solenoid or the engine branched wiring-harness.

  • Fuel control Unit (A3)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If harness is not acceptable, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If OPEN CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  2. Examine the fuel control unit (A3) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If fuel control unit (A3) receptacle is contaminated or damaged, go to step 7.
    2. If OPEN CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  3. Perform continuity check between the fuel control unit (A3) as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    A3P1-A A3P1-B 18 - 20 ohm

    1. If resistance check fails, go to step 7.
    2. If OPEN CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  4. Perform wiring check between P1 (APU) and A3P1 (fuel control unit).

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If OPEN CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  5. Perform wiring check between J802 (aircraft wiring harness) and A108BP1 (FADEC).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  6. Make sure OPEN CKT-FCU [SHUT OFF SOL]/WIRING does not show on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If checks are good, continue with next step.

  7. Replace Fuel control unit.
  8. Do close out.
