These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

The signals from the Torque Motor Metering Valve, of the fuel control unit, to the Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) are higher than the expected range. This shows a possible open in the Torque Motor Metering Valve or the engine branched wiring-harness.

Possible Causes:

  • Fuel Control Unit (A3)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If the engine branched wiring-harness is not acceptable, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If OPEN CKT - FCU/FCU TORQUE MOTOR WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  2. Examine the fuel control unit (A3) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If fuel control unit (A3) receptacle is contaminated or damaged, go to step 7.
    2. If OPEN CKT - FCU/FCU TORQUE MOTOR WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a continuity check within the fuel control unit (A3) receptacle (WM 49-12) as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    A3P1-C A3P1-D 30 - 40 ohms

    1. If system checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If OPEN CKT - FCU/FCU TORQUE MOTOR WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  4. Perform a wiring check between P1 (APU) and A3P1 (fuel control unit).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If OPEN CKT - FCU/FCU TORQUE MOTOR WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a wiring check between J802 (aircraft wiring harness) and A108BP1 (FADEC).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  6. Make sure OPEN CKT - FCU/FCU TORQUE MOTOR WRG does not show on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  7. Replace Fuel control Unit.
  8. Do close out.
