Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

When the Ignition Unit is not ON, the internal Built-In Test Equipment (BITE) signals show an incorrect indication of defective channels. This shows a possible short in the internal BITE signals or a possible short to ground in the wiring.

Possible Causes:

  • Ignition Exciter (A2)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is bare wiring, kinks, worn areas or other damage, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  2. Check if CH A Built-In Test (BIT) SHORT-IGNITION EXCITER/WRG still shows.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Examine the ignition exciter (A2) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If damaged, go to step 12.
    2. If there is no damage, continue with next step.

  4. Check if CH A Built-In Test (BIT) SHORT-IGNITION EXCITER/WRG still shows.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  5. Make sure there is no short between each pin A, B, C, D and F and the connector shell of A2 receptacle (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is a short, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no short, continue with next step.

  6. Check if CH A Built-In Test (BIT) SHORT-IGNITION EXCITER/WRG still shows.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  7. Perform a continuity check between pin E and the connector shell of A2 receptacle (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is no continuity, go to step 12.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  8. Check if CH A Built-In Test (BIT) SHORT-IGNITION EXCITER/WRG still shows.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  9. Make sure there is no short between each pin 2, 3, 29 and 31 and the connector shell of P1 (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is short, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If there is no short, continue with next step.

  10. Check if CH A Built-In Test (BIT) SHORT-IGNITION EXCITER/WRG still shows.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  11. Make sure there is no short between each pin 2, 3, 29 and 31 and the connector shell of J802 (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is no short, do close out.
    2. If there is short, continue with next step.

  12. Replace ignition exciter (A2).
  13. Do close out.
