Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Remove the oil filter elements.
- Perform a detailed inspection of the oil filter element.
- If system check are not good, replace oil filter element and do close out.
- If system check are good, remove the APU-generator scavenge-inlet screens and continue with next step.
WARNING: DO NOT LET LUBRICATING OIL TOUCH YOUR EYES OR STAY ON YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES RELEASED FROM IT. LUBRICATING OIL IS DANGEROUS TO YOUR EYES, SKIN AND LUNGS. IT CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TOUCH THE INLET SCREENS. YOU CAN EASILY CAUSE DEFORMATION OF THE MESH WIRES BECAUSE THEY ARE THIN. DEFORMATION CAN DECREASE THE SCAVENGE OIL FLOW AND CAN CAUSE THE INLET SCREENS TO BECOME CLOGGED. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
- Examine the inlet screens for unwanted material and clean the inlet screens if necessary.
- Clean the gearbox-housing generator-scavenge cores.
- Replace oil filter elements.
- If system checks are good, do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Examine the inlet screens for damage using magnifying glass to examine the inlet screens.
- Make sure the mesh of the inlet screen is not damaged.
NOTE: Damage can cause a larger clearance than usual between the mesh wires. - Make sure the gasket on the inlet screen is not damaged.
NOTE: A damaged gasket can cause an oil leak.- If you find damage, replace the APU-generator scavenge-inlet screen and do close out.
- If no damage found, clean the APU-generator scavenge-inlet screens and continue with next step.
CAUTION: DO NOT START THE APU IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF THIS COMPONENT. OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PROCEDURES THAT FOLLOW. IF YOU START THE APU AT THIS TIME, DAMAGE TO THE APU CAN OCCUR.
- Install the APU-generator scavenge-inlet screens.
- Remove the starter gear/clutch module.
- Install a new starter gear/clutch module.
- Clean the gearbox-housing generator-scavenge cores.
- Install new oil filter elements.
- Remove the gearbox inlet screen.
- Clean the gearbox inlet screen.
- Install the gearbox inlet screen.
- Perform the servicing of the APU oil supply.
- Close the auxiliary power unit (APU) access doors.
- Start the APU.
- Apply a maximum electrical load to the APU.
- Operate the APU for 15 minutes.
- Stop the APU.
- Open the auxiliary power unit (APU) access doors.
- Examine all the components that were replaced for signs of oil leakage. Is oil leakage found?
- If NO, go to step 26.
- If YES, continue with next step.
- Perform the following steps:
WARNING: LET THE APU BECOME COOL BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR NEAR IT. HOT OIL, BLEED AIR AND EXHAUST SYSTEM COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.- Correct the oil leakage as necessary.
- Make sure there are no more leaks.
- Continue with this procedure.
- If GENERATOR OIL FLTR IMPENDING BYPASS does show on the CAIMS PMAT, go to step 27.
- If GENERATOR OIL FLTR IMPENDING BYPASS does NOT show on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.
- Perform the following steps:
- Remove the gearbox inlet screen.
- Clean the gearbox inlet screen.
- Install the gearbox inlet screen.
