Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Before the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is started, the Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) received an indication of a possible clogged Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Oil-Filter Element. This shows a possible defective Oil-Filter Differential Pressure Switch.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Filter Differential Pressure Switch (S3)
  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) (A108)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Check for the message FADEC CONTROLLER shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If message shows, replace FADEC and do close out.
    2. If message not shows, continue with next step.

  2. Check for the message SHORT-GEN OIL FLTR DIFFPRESS SW/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.
  3. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is bare wiring, kinks, worn areas or other damage, go to step 15.
    2. If not, continue with next step.

  4. Examine the generator-filter differential-pressure switch (S3) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If contamination or damage found, go to step 16.
    2. If not, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a continuity check within the generator-filter differential-pressure switch (S3) receptacle (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    S3P1-A S3P1-B <50 ohms

    1. If measurements are not good, go to step 16.
    2. If measurements are good, continue with next step.

  6. Perform a continuity check between generator-filter differential-pressure switch (S3) and the ground shell (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follow:

    From To Expected Result Result
    S3P1-A Ground >1 megohm
    S3P1-B Ground >1 megohm

    1. If measurements are not good, go to step 16.
    2. If measurements are good, continue with next step.

  7. Perform wiring check between APU (P1) and generator-filter differential-pressure switch (S3P1).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, go to step 15.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  8. Perform a continuity check within the generator-filter differential-pressure switch (S3) connector. The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    S3P1-A S3P1-B >50 ohms

    1. If measurements are not good, go to step 15.
    2. If measurements are good, continue with next step.

  9. Perform a continuity check between each pin that follows and the ground shell (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    P802-49 Ground >1 megohm
    P802-50 Ground >1 megohm
    S3P1-A Ground >1 megohm
    S3P1-B Ground >1 megohm

    1. If measurements are not good, go to step 15.
    2. If measurements are good, continue with next step.

  10. Perform wiring checks between aircraft wiring harness (J802) and FADEC (A108AP1).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  11. Check for the message SHORT-GEN OIL FLTR DIFFPRESS SW/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If message not shows, do close out.
    2. If message shows, continue with next step.

  12. Perform a continuity check within the J802 connector (WM 49-61). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    J802-49 J802-50 >50 ohms

    1. If measurements are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If measurements are good, continue with next step.

  13. Check for the message SHORT-GEN OIL FLTR DIFFPRESS SW/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT.

    1. If message not shows, do close out.
    2. If message shows, continue with next step.

  14. Perform a continuity check between each pin that follows and the ground shell (WM 49-61). The resistance should measure more than one megohm for each wire.

    From To Expected Result Result
    J802-49 Ground >1 megohm
    J802-50 Ground >1 megohm
    A108AP1-J3 Ground >1 megohm
    A108AP1-H2 Ground >1 megohm

    1. If measurements are good, do close out.
    2. If measurements are not good, continue with next step.

  15. Replace engine branched wiring-harness.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  16. Replace Generator Filter Differential Pressure Switch (S3).
  17. Do close out.
