Fault Description:

The Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) cannot read data from the Time Totalizing Meter or from the Start Counter Meter because the resistance of the load is low. This shows a possible short circuit in the Time Totalizing Meter, Start Counter Meter, the engine branched wiring-harness or the aircraft wiring harness.

Possible Causes:

  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) (A108)
  • Time Totalizing Meter (M1)
  • Start Counter Meter (M2)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If there is bare wiring, kinks, worn areas or other damage, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If there is no bare wiring, kinks, worn areas or other damage, coninue with next step.

  2. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, examine the time totalizing meter (M1) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If there is contamination or damage, replace the time totalizing meter (M1) and do close out.
    2. If there is no contamination or damage, continue with next step.

  3. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, examine the start-counter meter (M2) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If there is contamination or damage, replace the start counter meter (M2) and do close out.
    2. If there is no contamination or damage, continue with next step.

  4. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, connect the hour meter/start counter reader to the time totalizing meter (M1). Push down and hold the push-button on the hour meter/start counter reader.

    1. If there is no data on the EVENTS LED, replace the time totalizing meter (M1) and do close out.
    2. If there is data on the EVENTS LED, continue with next step.

  5. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, perform a check for insulation resistance between the pins of connector M2P1 (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    M2P1-A M2P1-B >1 megohm

    1. If the resistance is not as mentioned above, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If the resistance is as mentioned above, continue with next step.

  6. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, perform a check for insulation resistance between each pin that follows and the ground shell (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    P802-67 Ground Shell >1 megohm
    P802-68 Ground Shell >1 megohm
    P802-69 Ground Shell >1 megohm
    M2P1-A Ground Shell >1 megohm
    M2P1-B Ground Shell >1 megohm
    M2P1-C Ground Shell >1 megohm

    1. If the resistance is not as mentioned above, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If the resistance is as mentioned above, continue with next step.

  7. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, perform a check for insulation resistance between the pins of connector M1P1 (WM 49-12). The resistance should measure as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    M1P1-A M1P1-B >1 megohm

    1. If the resistance is not as mentioned above, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If the resistance is as mentioned above, continue with next step.

  8. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, perform a check for insulation resistance between each pin and the ground shell (WM 49-12) as follows:

    From To Result
    P802-59 Ground Shell
    P802-60 Ground Shell
    P802-72 Ground Shell
    M1P1-A Ground Shell
    M1P1-B Ground Shell
    M1P1-C Ground Shell

    1. If the checks are not good, replace engine branched wiring-harness and do close out.
    2. If the checks are good, continue with next step.

  9. If the message SHORT-START CNTR/TIME TOT METER/WRG still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, perform a check for insulation resistance between the pins of counter meter connector (A108AP1) (WM 49-61). The resistance should measure as follows:
