AMBER MESSAGE (ADVISORY)
CYAN MESSAGE (STATUS)
WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

One or more of the VHF NAV unit fans does not operate.

Possible Causes:

  • The fan has an obstruction and cannot turn freely
  • Fan
  • VHF Nav unit
  • Fan Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect applicable VHF NAV unit fan power connector (VHF NAV 1 - A3BP1) (VHF NAV 2 - A4BP1). Do a 28 VDC voltage and ground check as follows:
    VHF 1

    From To Expected Result Result
    A3BJ1-2 Ground 28 VDC
    A3BJ1-44 Ground Continuity

    VHF 2

    From To Expected Result Result
    A4BJ1-2 Ground 28 VDC
    A4BJ1-44 Ground Continuity

    1. If there is voltage and ground, continue with next step
    2. If there is no voltage or ground, go to step 3

  2. Perform a continuity check between the applicable VHF NAV unit and cooling fan
    VHF 1

    From To Result
    A3BP1-2 Fan B3 PWR contact
    A3BP1-44 Fan B3 RTN contact

    VHF 2

    From To Result
    A4BP1-2 Fan B4 PWR contact
    A4BP1-44 Fan B4 RTN contact

    1. If there is continuity, replace cooling fan
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring and do close out

  3. Replace applicable VHF NAV unit
  4. Do close out
