Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

Pilot or Copilot Hand Microphone does not operate correctly.

Possible Causes:

  • Pilot Hand Microphone (J157)
  • Copilot Hand Microphone (J156)
  • Audio Panel 1 (A8)
  • Audio Panel 2 (A9)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Make sure all the associated Audio Panel switches are set correctly by performing the Operational Test of the Hand Microphones (AMM 23-51-17-710-801). Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  2. Swap the Pilot and Copilot Hand Microphones. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, replace the defective microphone and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Check which Hand Microphone does not function correctly?

    1. If the Copilot Hand Microphone does not function correctly, go to step 6.
    2. If the Pilot Hand Microphone does not function correctly, continue with next step.

  4. Disconnect the Pilot Hand Microphone and access the jack (J157). Disconnect Audio Panel 1 connector (A8P1). Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    J157-T A8P1-A
    J157-R A8P1-K

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, replace Audio Control Panel 1 and do close out.

  5. Disconnect the Copilot Hand Microphone and access the jack (J156). Disconnect Audio Panel 2 connector (A9P1). Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    J156-T A9P1-A
    J156-R A9P1-K

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  6. Replace Audio Control Panel 2.
  7. Do close out.
