Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

One or more of the caution/warning lights does not show on the EICAS display when the Pilot Initiated Test is done.

Possible Causes:

  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Fire Detectors
  • Main Landing Gear (MLG) Detectors
  • Baggage Smoke Detector
  • Lavatory Smoke Detector
  • Avionics Bay Smoke Detector
  • Closet Smoke Detector
  • Fire Extinguishing Bottle 1
  • Fire Extinguishing Bottle 2
  • Left Engine Squibs
  • Right Engine Squibs
  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Squibs

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. On the center pedestal on the REVERSION controller panel, set the EICAS switch to NORM.
  2. On the center pedestal on the EICAS controller panel, set the system SELECT switch to NORM.
  3. Perform the Pilot Initiated Test of the fire protection system, by pushing the TEST pushbutton on the EMS CDU.
    NOTE: On the SYSTEM TEST page of the EMS CDU, the FIRE TEST is then lit.
  4. Press the right side pushbutton opposite TEST to start the FIRE TEST.
  5. Check for the following results appear on the EMS CDU.

    REFERENCE POSITION/INDICATION
    Both MASTER/CAUTION-WARNING lights Flash
    Left engine fire-handle light On
    Right engine fire-handle light On
    APU fire handle light On
    Triple chime Aural
    LEFT ENGINE FIRE Aural
    RIGHT ENGINE FIRE Aural
    APU FIRE Aural
    GEAR BAY OVERHEAT Aural
    SMOKE Aural
    L-R ENG FIRE (Warning) EICAS
    APU FIRE (Warning) EICAS
    MLG OVHT (Warning) EICAS
    SMOKE AVIONICS BAY (Warning) EICAS
    SMOKE BAGGAGE (Warning) (if installed) EICAS
    SMOKE FWD LAV (Warning) (if installed) EICAS
    SMOKE AFT LAV (Warning) (if installed) EICAS
    SMOKE CLOSET (Warning) (if installed) EICAS

  6. After approximately 10 seconds, check if the conditions that follow occur on the EMS CDU.

    REFERENCE POSITION/INDICATION
    Both MASTER/CAUTION-WARNING lights Off
    Left engine fire-handle light Off
    Right engine fire-handle light Off
    APU fire handle light Off

    1. If YES, do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  7. Check if one of the fault messages that follow appear on the EICAS.

    1. If YES, perform the applicable troubleshooting in the SmartFix Plus "Troubleshooting by ATA" section.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  8. Do close out.
