Message Overview:

Message Name:

AMBER RAD FLAG ON COPILOT PFD

Message Code: 344OBS001
Effectivity: All
System: Radio Altimeter System
System Description: 34-44-00
Schematic Diagram: 34-44-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 34-44-01 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Message Description:

Amber RAD Flag (Radio Altitude miscompare) on Copilot Primary Flight Display (PFD).

Possible Causes:

  • Radio Altimeter Transceiver 2 (A68)
  • Radio Altimeter Transmit Antenna 2 (E17)
  • Radio Altimeter Receive Antenna 2 (E18)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

NOTE: The radio altimeter (RA) supplies altitude signals to other systems. When one of these signals does not show, the smart LRU will send a fault (CAIMS) report about the RA. You can get access to the active faults on the CAIMS PMAT to find the fault messages and the fault isolation procedure. If there are more than one CAIMS fault message about a RA, the RA is the most possible cause.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Perform wiring checks of Rad Alt 2 strappings.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  2. Perform wiring checks between Rad Alt 2 and Rad Alt 2 antennas.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  3. Swap RAD ALT 2 with RAD ALT 1.

    1. If the system checks are good, replace RAD ALT 2 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  4. Swap Rad Alt transmit antenna 2 with Rad Alt transmit antenna 1.

    1. If the system checks are good, replace Rad Alt transmit antenna 2 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. Replace Rad Alt receive antenna 2.
  6. Do close out.
