Message Name:
FATAL CAIMS ERROR DISPLAYED ON PMAT
| Message Code: | 454OBS002 |
| Effectivity: | All |
| System: | Central Aircraft-Information Maintenance System (CAIMS) |
| System Description: | 45-45-00 |
| Schematic Diagram: | 45-45-00 [ Global Express ] [ G5000 ] [ Global XRS ] |
| Wiring Diagram: | 45-45-01 [ Global Express ] [ G5000 ] [ Global XRS ] |
Message Description:
The message appears on the Central Aircraft-Information Maintenance System (CAIMS) Portable Maintenance-Access Terminal (PMAT) display when the PMAT cannot complete the AUTO LOAD check.
Possible Causes:
- Portable Maintenance Access Terminal (PMAT) (AM-200)
- Associated Wiring
Troubleshooting Tips:
Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None
Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None
NOTE: When the PMAT initially starts, it automatically starts a Built-In Test (BIT). The BIT does a check of the operating system software, CD-ROM, and other internal functions. The BIT continues for approximately two minutes. After the BIT completes, one of the conditions that follow will occur:
- If the CAIMS software-validation procedure fails, the PMAT display shows the FATAL CAIMS ERROR-message. Thus, the PMAT does not install the CAIMS diagnostic software. For this condition, you must send the PMAT back to Honeywell for analysis
- If the hardware BIT fails, the PMAT display shows an applicable fault message
- If the BIT does not find an internal fault, the PMAT starts correctly. The PMAT shows the WINDOWS Page or the FLIGHT-DECK EFFECT-TO-FAULT CORRELATION-page
NOTE: If the PMAT 1.0 (P/N 7023300-913) senses that aircraft power is removed (from the activity of the DAU channels), the display shows the SHUTDOWN DETECTED page. The SHUTDOWN DETECTED page has the SHUTDOWN NOW and ABORT SHUTDOWN selections. For this condition, the CAIMS diagnostic mode cancels and the PMAT prepares to de-energize automatically in 10 seconds.
- SHUTDOWN NOW: This selection lets the PMAT de-energize automatically
- ABORT SHUTDOWN: This selection cancels the SHUTDOWN sequence. Make this selection only when you are sure that PMAT power is available. If you make the ABORT SHUTDOWN selection, the message that follows shows on the PMAT 1.0
CAUTION: CAIMS believes shutdown is imminent. Failure to gracefully shutdown the AM200 when you remove power can cause damage to the AM200. Push YES below if you are sure that the AM200 continues to receive aircraft power. If you remove the aircraft power and you make the YES selection:
- You can cause damage to the database
- You can cause damage to the PMAT software
NOTE: If the PMAT 2.0 (P/N 7023300-801) senses that aircraft power is removed, it will do an automatic shutdown. The automatic shutdown will occur in 10 seconds or less. You cannot stop this shutdown unless you get power back in less than 10 seconds.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
- Perform a check of the EICAS display. Are any of the following CAS messages displayed?
- If YES, perform the appropriate troubleshooting procedure and continue with next step.
- If NO, continue with next step.
- After power up, do you get the "SHUTDOWN DETECTED" message on the PMAT display?
- If NO, go to step 8.
- If YES, continue with next step.
- On the EMS CDU, make sure that all DAUs have power.
NOTE: On PMAT 2.0, make sure the green light next to the power button is lit. - Make a selection of "SHUTDOWN NOW".
NOTE: On PMAT 2.0, push and hold the power button for more than 3 seconds. This will cause the PMAT to shut down immediately. - Start the PMAT again.
NOTE: PMAT 2.0 will restart automatically is aircraft power is not removed. - Is the "SHUTDOWN DETECTED" message still present after power-up?
- If NO, go to step 8.
- If YES, continue with next step.
- Perform a wiring check of the ASCB interface.
- If the wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If the wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
- Replace PMAT.
- Do close out.
