Troubleshooting Recommendations:

NOTE: Bombardier request Operators to reports all occurrences of the momentary fuel smell cases in flight or on the ground during spool up. To help the ongoing investigation please provide information to Honeywell Aerospace Technical Support (ATS) help desk and Bombardier local Field Service Representative. All reported cases will be investigated and the findings will be complied to allow the investigation team to gather data in order to improve the troubleshooting guides.

An Advisory committee issue was raised to this effect (49-35-M-1000), ensuring every reported case to be tracked and thoroughly investigated. Preliminary analysis revealed the following potential contributors and associated corrective actions:

  1. Carbon build-up in the combustor:

    • Optional task for combustor wash
    • MPD section 3.2 (AMM task: 49-21-00-170-801)
    • Recommended interval: 1000 APU Hours pre SB RE220-49-7813 and 2000 APU Hours post SB & APU S/N P-286 & sub

  2. Fuel Leakage:

    • Fuel Nozzle/Fuel Control Unit (FCU)/Secondary Flow Divider SOV
    • Fuel draining with APU shutdown or improper fuel metering
    • Ref: CMM 49-24-35, Table 104: Shutdown Plenum Drain leakage limit
