Message Overview:

Message Name:

NO ENGINE START WITH NORMAL IGNITION

Message Code: 743OBS001
Effectivity: All
System: Switching System
System Description: 74-30-00
Schematic Diagram: 74-00-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 74-00-01 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Message Description:

The Engine does not start with NORMAL ignition. If continuous (manually selected 'ON') ignition is selected the Engine will start.

Possible Causes:

  • Inboard (INBD) Igniter
  • Outboard (OUTBD) Igniter
  • Igniter Leads
  • Left Engine Ignition Unit 1
  • Left Engine Ignition Unit 2
  • Right Engine Ignition Unit 1
  • Right Engine Ignition Unit 2
  • Left Electronic Engine Controller (EEC)
  • Right Electronic Engine Controller (EEC)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

  • Roll Royce NTO 244 - Ignition System Logic and Improved Troubleshooting Sequence for Ignition System related Starting Issues

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter:

  • Roll Royce (RTV) 162848 Operational test of the Ignition system

NOTE: When the engines are normally started with AUTO ignition the EEC alternates the channels and igniters in the following sequence below:

  • Sequence 1: EEC channel A, commands the discharge of igniter 1
  • Sequence 2: EEC channel B, commands the discharge of igniter 1
  • Sequence 3: EEC channel A, commands the discharge of igniter 2
  • Sequence 4: EEC channel B, commands the discharge of igniter 2

NOTE: The EEC selects both ignition systems in the follow conditions below:

  • Manual ground and air starts
  • Automatic Air starts
  • Part of the Rain/Hail ingestion flame-out protection system
  • When crew selects continuous ignition by pressing the ignition switch

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Perform the operational test of the ignition panel and igniters as per AMM 74-30-01-710-801.

    1. If the operational checks are good, go to step 3.
    2. If the operational check fails, continue with next step.
NOTE: It is best to do the complete operational check of the igniters in case there is more than one bad igniter.

  2. Swap ignition unit 1 with ignition unit 2 on the engine that does not fire all igniters. Perform the operational test of the ignition panel and igniters per AMM 74-30-01-710-801.

    1. If the fault remains, replace igniter or igniter lead and do close out..
    2. If the system checks are good, replace the defective ignition unit and continue with next step.

  3. Check if there a noticeable difference in the igniter (Clicking/Firing) when doing the ignition test?

    1. If YES, replace the igniter that sounds soft or quiet and do close out.
    2. If NO, continue with next step.

  4. Swap engine EECs. Does the fault transfer to the opposite engine?

    1. If NO, repair or replace wiring from Engine start panel to engine wiring harness to engine EEC.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  5. Replace the defective engine EEC.
  6. Do close out.
