Troubleshooting Recommendations:
NOTE: During the fault isolation procedure, if you repair any defects, complete the vibration survey of the engine before proceeding to the next part of the procedure. If the survey is satisfactory, no further maintenance is required.
- Perform a general visual inspection of the engine - internal.
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform a visual inspection of the exhaust for damage and/or debris as follows:
- Perform a visual examination of the exhaust con.
- Perform a visual examination of the exhaust nozzle
- If any damage and/or debris found, repair the damage as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform a general visual inspection of the fuel manifold.
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform an inspection of the thrust reverser.
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform the detailed inspection of the Magnetic Chip Detectors.
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform a visual inspection of the Variable Stator Vane System (VSV) as follows:
- Get access to the VSV mechanism:
- Open the upper and lower cowl doors
- Remove the applicable access panels from the bypass duct
- Remove the compressor fairings
- Use a strong, flameproof light source and a magnifying glass (Minimum 10X magnification). Visually examine the VSV mechanism as far as possible for damaged, broken or missing components. Look carefully for cracks, bends or distortion of the rods and levers
- Close access to the VSV mechanism:
- Install the compressor fairings
- Install the applicable access panels to the bypass duct
- Close the upper and lower cowl doors
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Get access to the VSV mechanism:
- Perform an inspection of the High Pressure (HP) compressor.
- If any damage found, repair as required and do close out.
- If no damage found, continue with next step.
- Perform an inspection of the High Pressure (HP) turbine blades and Nozzle Guide Vanes (NGV) and repair if any damage found.
- Do close out.
