Fault Description:

The Humidifier Control Unit (HCU) senses the Boiler does not fill to its high level in the usual time.

Possible Causes:

  • Humidifier Drain Valve (HDV) (L53)
  • Drain Line
  • Humidifier Level Sensor (HLS) (MT214)
  • Humidifier Control Unit (HCU) (A248)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Perform leak check of the water system.
  2. Perform leak check of the Humidifier system as per AMM task 21-71-00-720-801 steps 1.A to 1.F.(10).
  3. Make sure the water pressure is good.
  4. Perform wiring checks between HCU and HLS including the ground.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair the defective associated wiring and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  5. Using a multimeter that reads Frequencies, measure the Frequency of the signal coming out of the HLS going to the HCU. Frequency should be as per the table below:

    Water Level (mm) 423.3 ±5 299.3 ±5 171.4 ±5 35.8 ±5 0 ±5

  6. Using a Multimeter, measure the HLS supply voltage coming from HCU. Supply voltage should be 5 VDC at the HLS.
  7. Replace HLS.

    1. If the system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If the fault remains, continue with next step.

  8. Reseat HCU.

    1. If the system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If the fault remains, continue with next step.

  9. Replace HCU.
  10. Do close out.
    NOTE: Perform Functional Test of the Humidifier System (TASK 21-71-00-720-801) to confirm the system integrity.This task is the approved Return to Service (RTS) Test for the Humidifier System.
    If the operator which to operate the humidifier on the ground as it operates in flight, then use the following attached procedure. Please note that the attached procedure is not approved for RTS and can only be used for troubleshooting purpose. Please note that the 3.5 hours delay can not be bypassed in this procedure.
    Humidifier Operation with Aircraft W off W (3.5 hours delay activation).
