Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Generator Control Units (GCU) 3 senses a Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) failure on phase C.

Possible Causes:

  • Generator Control Unit (GCU) 3 (A58)
  • Variable Frequency Generator (VFG) 3 (G3)
  • Associated Wiring

Over current detection specification: output current is more than 185 Amps on at least one phase of the Generator 3.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Swap GCU 3 with GCU 4.

    1. If system checks are good, replace GCU 3 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Perform wiring checks between GEN 3 and GCU 3 as follow:

    G3P1-L A58P1-G

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  3. Replace GEN 3.
  4. Do close out.
