These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

One of the conditions that follow occurs:

  • The Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) Cooling Fan Speed is not in the normal limits for at least two seconds.
  • The fan solid-state relay tripped because of an over current condition.

Possible Causes:

  • Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 Tray Fan (B8)
  • Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 (A124)
  • Associated Wiring

Performing a SLAT FLAP RESET on the EMS CDU may clear this fault.

NOTE: Wait at least one minute after SFCU reset to allow self test to run.

The fan is always operating on the SFCU P/N GT415-5900-15 or higher dash number.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect the connector at the fan under the SFCU 1 tray. Perform wiring checks between the SFCU to the tray fan connector (B8P1).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
      NOTE: The fan is energized by 28 VDC on VE+ and VE-. The Fan Performance Sensor (FPS) is providing impedance.

  2. Swap SFCU 1 with SFCU 2 and confirm that they are installed properly and securely.

    1. If system checks are good, replace SFCU 1 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Replace fan under the SFCU 1 tray.
  4. Do close out.
