Reporting LRU: Flight Control Unit (FCU) 2
System Description: 27-23-00
Schematic Diagram: 27-20-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 27-20-02 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

Flight Control Unit 2 detects that there is a problem with Rudder Travel Limiter Position Transducer 2.

Possible Causes:

  • Rudder Travel Limiter Position Transducer 2 (MT168)
  • Flight Control Unit (FCU) 2 (A66)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

This fault may sometime be cleared by performing the flight control system reset procedure. If the message comes back more then once within 10 flight legs, troubleshooting is required.

NOTE: If FCUs are swapped/ replaced, ensure proper system tests are carried out to clear latched faults retained in the FCU prior to Swap.

The RTL values are displayed when FCU SPOST #1 or SPOST #2 (HYD ON) is successfully completed. (i.e flight control reset procedure).

  1. RUDDER TRAVEL LIM POS XDCR (DEG) tolerance is ±0.5 DEG.
  2. RUDDER TRAVEL LIM ACT POS (INCHES) tolerance is ±0.01 IN.

The position of the RTL can be found in CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY RUDDER TRAVEL LIM DATA.
  6. CONFIRM.

And

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY ADVANCED EFCS DATA.
  6. Go to page 6 of 8.

If the fault cleared and can not be duplicated, the rudder limiter can be simulated on CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. RUD TRAVEL LIM ACTR 1/2 POSITIONING.
  6. CONFIRM.
  7. Select the speed to be simulated then click on SELECT.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Swap FCU 2 with FCU 1.

    1. If system checks are good, replace FCU 2. Reset FCUs latched faults and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Perform wiring checks between FCU 2 to the rudder travel limiter position transducer 2 (MT168).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  3. Replace the Rudder Travel Limiter Position Transducer 2.
  4. Do close out.
