Reporting LRU: Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1
System Description: 27-23-00
Schematic Diagram: 27-20-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 27-20-02 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Message Description:

There is a problem with Rudder Travel Limiter Actuator (RTLA) 1 reported by Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1.

Possible Causes:

  • Rudder Travel Limiting Actuator (RTLA)1 (B42)
  • Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1 (A65)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

You may get this failure, if the rudder is not centered at the time the flight control units initiate the testing of the rudder limiting system on power-up with the AC power energized.

This fault may sometime be cleared by performing the flight control system reset procedure. If the message comes back more then once within 10 flight legs, troubleshooting is required.

The RTL values are displayed when FCU SPOST #1 or SPOST #2 (HYD ON) is successfully completed. (i.e flight control reset procedure)

  1. RUDDER TRAVEL LIM POS XDCR (DEG) tolerance is ±0.5 DEG.
  2. RUDDER TRAVEL LIM ACT POS (INCHES) tolerance is ±0.01 IN.

The position of the RTL can be found in CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT 1.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY RUDDER TRAVEL LIM DATA.
  6. CONFIRM.

If the fault cleared and can not be duplicated, the rudder limiter can be simulated on CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT 1/2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. RUD TRAVEL LIM ACTR 1/2 POSITIONING.
  6. CONFIRM.
  7. Select the speed to be simulated then click on SELECT.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Interchange FCU 2 with FCU 1. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, replace FCU 1. Clear FCU latched faults and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  2. Perform wiring checks between FCU1 and Rudder Travel Limiter Actuator 1.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  3. Replace Rudder Limiter Actuator 1.
  4. Do close out.
