These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

The calibration offsets of the Nose Wheel Steering Control System are not within requirement.

Possible Causes:

  • Right Steering Actuator Feedback Position-linear Variable Differential-Transformer (LVDT) (MT16)
  • Left Steering Actuator Feedback Position-linear Variable Differential-Transformer (LVDT) (MT17)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Servo Valve (L12)
  • Steering Control Unit (SCU) (A36)
  • Steering Control Handwheel Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (RVDT) Tiller (MT2)
  • Rudder Pedal Dual Rotary Variable Differential-Transducer (RVDT) (MT219)

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Perform the Rigging of the Nose Wheel Steering Control System.
  2. Perform Rigging Check of the Steering Control System.
  3. If fault persist refer to the SCU Fault code window table, to identify which is the Steering Control System LRU at fault.
    NOTE: When more than 1 number or symbol needs to be displayed the display will flash the numbers through.

    Code Faulty LRU/Action
    E Calibration (Rigging) offsets are not valid. Perform rigging procedure.
    E-2 PILOT HANDWHEEL RVDT NULL values not within range.
    Adjust Handwheel and perform the SCU rigging procedure.
    E-4 RUDDER PEDAL RVDT NULL value was not within rigging limits.
    Adjust RVDT and perform rigging procedure.
    E-8 The Right position FEEDBACK LVDT NULL value was not within rigging limits.
    Replace the Right NWS Actuator and perform rigging procedure.
    E-9 The Left position FEEDBACK LVDT NULL value was not within rigging limits.
    Replace the Left NWS Actuator and perform rigging procedure.
    E-12 PILOT HANDWHEEL RVDT (Va+Vb) signal value was not within rigging limits.
    SCU unable to identify faulty unit. Replace Handwheel and perform rigging procedure.
    If no fix replace SCU and perform rigging procedure.
    E-14 RUDDER PEDAL RVDT (Va+Vb) signal value was not within rigging limits.
    Replace the Rudder Pedal RVDT and perform rigging procedure.
    If no fix replace SCU and perform rigging procedure.
    E-17 The EHSV (Va+Vb) signal value was not within rigging limits. Replace the EHSV and perform rigging procedure.
    If no fix replace SCU and perform rigging procedure.
    E-18 The Right FEEDBACK LVDT (Va+Vb) signal value was not within rigging limits. Replace the Right NWS
    Actuator and perform rigging procedure. If no fix replace SCU and perform rigging procedure.
    E-19 The Left FEEDBACK LVDT (Va+Vb) signal value was not within rigging limits. Replace the Left NWS
    Actuator and perform rigging procedure. If no fix replace SCU and perform rigging procedure.If fault persist
    perform the NVM download of the Steering Control Unit and contact the Bombardier Customer Response Center for help.
