Fault Description:

This message shows when there is a problem with the Steer-by-Wire System, Steering Control Unit (SCU) or the related wiring interface. This is a generic system fault message. Refer to other CAIMS faults or SCU Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) to find the root cause.

Possible Causes:

  • Steering Control Unit (SCU) (A36)
  • Right Steering Actuator Feedback Position-linear Variable Differential-Transformer (LVDT) (MT16)
  • Left Steering Actuator Feedback Position-linear Variable Differential-Transformer (LVDT) (MT17)
  • Electro-Hydraulic Servo Valve (L12)
  • Solenoid Select Valve (L1)
  • Rudder Pedal Dual Rotary Variable Differential-Transducer (RVDT) (MT219)
  • Steering Control Handwheel Rotary Variable-Differential Transformer (RVDT) Tiller (MT2)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Check CAIMS for other active NWS faults.

    1. If there are NWS related CAIMS faults, troubleshoot them first and do close out.
    2. If there are no faults displayed in CAIMS, continue with next step.

  2. Check the Steering Control Unit Fault window for fault codes and use the correlation Table below to establish which part of the system is at fault as follows:

SCU Fault Window Code Action Required
    - If shown alone, System Fault.
Perform SCU NVM download and submit to Bombardier Customer Response Center.
    Ground Mode/No fault
    00 Air Mode/No fault
    01 Replace Steering Control Unit
02 Check Hand-wheel wiring, if good replace Hand-wheel
04 Check Rudder Pedal RVDT wiring, if good replace Rudder Pedal RVDT
05 Check Solenoid Selector Valve wiring, if good replace Solenoid Selector Valve
06 Perform Smart Fix plus troubleshooting for the following fault:
    3250009DWY PRESSURE SWITCH #1 and #2 MISMATCH
07 Check EHSV wiring, if good replace EHSV
08 Check Right Steering Actuator wiring, if good replace Right Steering Actuator
09 Check Left Steering Actuator wiring, if good replace Left Steering Actuator
    A Rigging Mode Entered
    C Rigging Mode Terminated
    E Rigging Fault

  3. If there are no fault displayed in CAIMS or SCU fault window, perform an SCU NVM download and send it to Bombardier Customer Response Centre for analysis.
  4. Do close out.
