Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

The Steering Control Unit detected a problem with the Steering Solenoid Valve or its interface to the SCU.

Possible Causes:

  • Steering Solenoid Valve (SSV) (L1)
  • Steering Pressure Switch (S2)
  • Steering Control Unit (SCU) (A36)
  • Associated Wiring

  • Normal behavior of Steering Pressure Switch S2:

    • Open circuit between pins A and B when steering select valve is not armed - no pressure
    • Closed circuit between pins A and B when steering select valve is armed - hydraulic system #3 is energized

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Re-seat SCU.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Perform a wiring check between SCU and Steering Solenoid Select Valve (L1).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a wiring check between SCU and Steering Pressure Switch (S2).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  4. Replace Steering Pressure Switch (S2).

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. Replace Steering Solenoid Select Valve.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  6. Replace SCU.
  7. Do close out.
