Fault Description:

The Steering Control Unit (SCU) detected that there is no pressure at the 3 Hydraulic Pressure Switches when the NWS system is armed and pressure is sensed at the Nose Wheel Steering (NWS) Pressure Switch 1.

Possible Causes:

  • Hydraulic AC Motor Pump 3A Pressure Switch (S39)
  • Hydraulic AC Motor Pump 3B Pressure Switch (S40)
  • Steering Solenoid Valve (SSV) (L1)
  • Steering Control Unit (SCU) (A36)
  • Junction Box 4 (JB4)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Set Hydraulic System switches 3A and 3B to ON.
  2. Set Nose Steer switch to ARMED.

    1. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is not shown on EICAS, go to step 5.
    2. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is shown on EICAS, continue with next step.

  3. Perform a wiring check between the Hydraulic system 3B Pressure switch (S40) and the SCU (A36).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, replace the Solenoid Selector Valve and continue with next step.

  4. Perform a wiring check between the Solenoid Selector Valve connector (L1P1) and the SCU (A36).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  5. Set the Hydraulic system switch 3A to OFF.

    1. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is not shown on EICAS, go to step 8.
    2. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is shown on EICAS, continue with next step.

  6. Perform a wiring check between the Hydraulic system 3B Pressure switch (S40) and the SCU (A36).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and go to step 10.
    2. If wiring checks are good, replace the Hydraulic system 3B Pressure switch (S40) and continue with next step.

  7. Set the Hydraulic system switch 3A to ON.
  8. Set the Hydraulic system switch 3B to OFF.
  9. Perform a continuity check between the Hydraulic system 3A Pressure switch wiring (S39) and the SCU (A36).

    1. If there is continuity, replace the Hydraulic system 3A Pressure switch (S39) and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and continue with next step.

  10. Replace JB4/PCB3.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  11. Check if the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is still shown on EICAS.

    1. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is not shown on EICAS, monitor for failure and do close out.
    2. If the NOSE STEER FAIL (amber) message is shown on EICAS, continue with next step.

  12. Replace SCU.
  13. Do close out.
