Fault Description:

A critical internal failure of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) has been detected, a protective APU shutdown was initiated.

Possible Causes:

  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) (A108)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Access CAIMS and using active faults, or stored faults, find the fault and verify the CAS message. You can use System Diagnostics to view each channel of the APU FADEC (each sensor) in real time, and also access ground faults. Page 1 and 2 of the APU DATA STATUS shows the APU critical sensors on each channel of the APU FADEC. Look and see what data is missing.

    1. If all data are missing, suspect the APU FADEC or Firewall Connector.
    2. If no datas are missing, continue with next step.

  2. Visually inspect the aircraft, or APU branch harness as identified in the above step.
  3. Un-rack APU FADEC and verify condition of connector A108AP1, A108BP1 and A108CP1 as well as APU mounting tray connectors for damage or FOD. Ensure APU FADEC rack connector does not have any o-rings.
  4. Perform a voltage check at FADEC Connector as follows:

    Pin Expected Result Result
    A108BP1-115 28 Volt
    A108BP1-114 28 Volt
    A108BP1-113 Ground
    A108AP1-F6 Ground

    1. If voltage checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If volatge checks are good, continue with next step.

  5. Move the rotary switch in the cockpit (S1) to Start, and verify 28 volts at A108AP1-K6 (2 people needed).

    1. If voltage checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If voltage checks are good, continue with next step.

  6. Re-rack APU FADEC and verify fault is still active.

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  7. Replace APU FADEC.
  8. Do close out.
