Fault Description:

The signals from the Impending Bypass Valve and Switch to the Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) show a bypass condition before the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) is ON. This shows a possible defective Impending Bypass Valve and Switch.

Possible Causes:

  • Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) Full-Authority Digital Engine-Controller (FADEC) (A108)
  • Impending Bypass Valve and Switch (S4)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. On the CAIMS PMAT, get access to the active faults.

    1. If the fault message FADEC CONTROLLER shows on the CAIMS PMAT, go to step 9.
    2. If the fault message FADEC CONTROLLER still shows on the CAIMS PMAT, continue with next step.

  2. Examine the engine branched wiring-harness for bare wiring, kinks, worn areas and other damage (WM 49-12).

    1. If the engine branched wiring-harness is not acceptable, go to step 7.
    2. If the engine branched wiring-harness is acceptable, continue with next step.

  3. Examine the impending bypass valve-and-switch (S4) receptacle for contamination and damage.

    1. If the impending bypass valve-and-switch (S4) receptacle is contaminated or damaged, go to step 8.
    2. If the impending bypass valve-and-switch (S4) receptacle is acceptable, continue with next step.

  4. Perform a continuity check within impending bypass valve-and-switch (S4) receptacle as follows:

    From To Expected Result Result
    S4P1-A S4P1-B 50 ohms

    1. If resistance check fails, go to step 8.
    2. If resistance checks good, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a wiring check between P1 (APU) and S4P1 (impending bypass valve-and-switch).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  6. Perform a wiring check between J802 (aircraft wiring harness) and A108BP1 (FADEC).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  7. Replace engine branched wiring-harness.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  8. Replace Impending Bypass valve-and-switch (S4).

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  9. Replace FADEC.
  10. Do close out.
