Message Description:

Fault message posted if DC Power Center (DCPC) Battery (BATT)/Ram Air Turbine (RAT) Interface Card receives the Avionic Battery Fail Status Discrete. Avionic Battery Charger will send the Battery fail status if:

  • Battery is too cold (below -4°F [-20°C]), too hot (above +134.6°F [+57°C])
  • The charge time during base charge (constant current operation) exceed 90 minutes,
  • It senses an open or shorted battery temperature sense thermistor
  • It senses an open or shorted battery voltage sense circuit
  • The battery over temperature thermal switch is set to open at 71°C
  • The battery pin programming is sensed to be open, thus no knowledge of which battery is connected

Possible Causes:

  • Avionics Battery (AV BATT) (A182)
  • Avionics Battery Charger (A181)
  • Battery/Ram-Air-Turbine Interface Card
  • DC Power Center (DCPC) (A63)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Remove and reapply the AC External power.
  2. Make sure the Avionic Battery is not too hot or too cold. If it is not in a nominal operating temperature, take the necessary measures to return the Avionic Battery to a nominal operating temperature. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  3. Interchange the AV BATT Charger with the APU BATT Charger and apply power to the A/C. Is the fault message still present?

    1. If NO, replace AV BATT Charger and do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  4. Disconnect the Avionic Battery connector A182P1. Disconnect the Avionic Battery Charger connector A181P1. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A182P1-G Ground
    A182P1-W Ground
    A182P1-c Ground
    A182P1-Y Ground
    A182P1-K Ground
    A182P1-H Ground
    A182P1-X Ground
    A182P1-J Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  5. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A182P1-G A181P1-G
    A182P1-W A181P1-W
    A182P1-c A181P1-c
    A182P1-Y A181P1-Y
    A182P1-K A181P1-K
    A182P1-H A181P1-H
    A182P1-X A181P1-X
    A182P1-J A181P1-J

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  6. Access the DCPC logic assembly. Remove the BATT/RAT Interface card and perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A181P1-N Ground

    1. If there is continuity, repair defective aircraft wiring as required or replace the DCPC if defect is in the DCPC and do close out.
    2. If there is no continuity, continue with next step.

  7. Perform a continuity check as follows:

    From To Result
    A181P1-N P410A-6

    1. If there is no continuity, repair defective aircraft wiring as required or replace DCPC if failure is in DCPC and do close out.
    2. If there is continuity, continue with next step.

  8. Replace the Avionic Battery. Is the fault still present?

    1. If NO, do close out.
    2. If YES, continue with next step.

  9. Replace the BATT/RAT Interface Card in the DCPC.
  10. Do close out.
