Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Heat sink temperature of the Slat/Flap Motor Drive circuit in the Slat Flap Control Unit (SFCU) is more than 200°C (392°F) and the motor thermostat is open.

Possible Causes:

  • Slat Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 (A124)
  • Slat Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 2 (A95)
  • Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor
  • Dragging Motor Brake
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. If there are other related active or stored faults, troubleshoot them first.
  2. On the EMS CDU, set the circuit breakers that follow to OUT for two or three seconds, and then set to IN:

System Name Circuit Breaker Bus Name
FLT CONTROLS SLAT/FLAP CTLR 1 BATT
FLT CONTROLS SLAT/FLAP CTLR 2 DC ESS

  3. Set the selection to a new detent position on the slat/flap control handle and move the system to the new position. Perform this step four times, one after the other.
NOTE: Continuous duty must be limited to four cycles with an ambient temperature of 25 °C (76 °F).

    1. If the fault message show again within four cycles, one after the other, let system become cool and go to step 6.
    2. If the fault message not shows within four cycles, continue with next step.

  4. Perform the rigging of the slat/flap control system.
  5. Set the selection a new detent position on the slat/flap control handle and move the system to the new position.

    1. If the fault not follows, go to step 7.
    2. If the fault follows, continue with next step.

  6. Swap SFCUs.

    1. If system checks are good, replace defective SFCU and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  7. If the fault message shows on the same channel set the EMS CDU circuit breakers that follow to OUT for two or three seconds, and then set to IN:

Sustem Name Circuit Breaker Bus Name
FLT CONTROLS SLAT/FLAP CTLR 1 BATT
FLT CONTROLS SLAT/FLAP CTLR 2 DC ESS

  8. Set the selection to a new detent position on the slat/flap control handle and move the system to the new position. Perform this step four times, one after the other.
NOTE: Continuous duty must be limited to four cycles with an ambient temperature of 25 °C (76 °F).

    1. If the fault message shows within four cycles, perform the fault isolation for CAIMS - SLAT MOTOR/ SFCU/ WRG and do close out.
    2. If the fault message does not show, continue with next step.

  9. Set the selection to a new detent position on the slat/flap control handle that moves only the flap system. Move the flap system to the new position. Perform this step four times, one after the other.
NOTE: Continuous duty must be limited to four cycles with an ambient temperature of 25 °C (76 °F).

    1. If the fault message not shows within four cycles, do close out.
    2. If the fault message shows within four cycles, continue with next step.

  10. Perform the fault isolation for CAIMS - FLAP MOTOR/SFCU/WIRING.
  11. Do close out.
