Fault Description:

Ground Spoiler System does not receive the altitude signal from Radio Altimeter (RA) 1 for Ground Lift Dumping (GLD) function. This CAIMS report is made by Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1.

Possible Causes:

  • Flight Control Unit (FCU) 1 (A65)
  • Radio Altimeter Transceiver (RAD ALT) 1 (A67)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

If more fault reports are made by different systems regarding the same radio altimeter, troubleshoot the radio altimeter first. The other systems that make fault reports about the RA are the GPWS, HUD, and DAU. No action required if it is reported in the fault history only. This fault is recorded when the radio altimeter is out of range or not powered.

The radio altimeter #1 can be monitored in CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #1
  4. LRU TEST
  5. DISPLAY MISC. & SENSORS STATUS
  6. CONFIRM
  7. Go to page 3 of 3

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Confirm the Radio Altimeter 1 altitude is posted on the Pilot Flight Display (PFD).

    1. If altitude is not present, go to step 4.
    2. If altitute is present, continue with next step.

  2. Swap FCU 1 with FCU 2 and reset FCUs latched faults.

    1. If system checks are good, replace FCU 1 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Perform wiring checks between FCU 1 and RA 1.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  4. Replace Radio Altimeter 1.
  5. Do close out.
