WHITE MESSAGE Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Message Description:

During normal system operation, there is a possibility for fuel to enter and accumulate in the Forward Tank during automatic refueling operation, when no fuel is scheduled for this tank. This cause the 'FWD FAIL/INHIBIT' message(s) displayed on Refuel/Defuel Control Panel (RDCP).

Possible Causes:

  • Forward Refuel Shut-off Valve (SOV)

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Using CAIMS System Diagnostic, LRU Test Function, access the "FWD Fuel Tank Gauging Sensor Data" to check the forward tank fuel quantity.

    1. If forward tank quantity is less than 150 lbs, transfer the forward tank fuel into the center tank at the next opportunity (refer to flow chart).
    2. If forward tank quantity is more than 250 lbs, continue with next step.

  2. Transfer the forward tank fuel into the center tank.

    1. If the system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Perform "284OBS004 - FWD FAIL INDICATION ON THE REFUEL/DEFUEL CONTROL PANEL" annunciation troubleshooting.

    1. If the system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  4. Perform "282OBS003 - INHIBIT" ANNUNCIATION ON RDCP IN AUTO MODE REFUELING" annunciation troubleshooting.
  5. Do close out.
