Fault Description:
- Open circuit condition in the Thermal Sensor located in the Flap Motor
- Over temperature condition in the Flap Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor winding
Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) reports the Thermal Sensor and over temp (open) for more than 0.5 second, initiate a normal Slat braking sequence.
Possible Causes:
- Flap Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor 1 (B11)
- Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 (A124)
- Associated Wiring
Troubleshooting Tips:
Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None
Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None
Can be caused by exceeding duty cycle, cool times may need to be extended in hot environments.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:
WARNING: Make sure that the PDU motors are cool. If the PDU motors were in operation, they can be hot and you can burn your hands.
- On the EMS CDU, select CTRL function and SLAT/FLAP RESET.
NOTE: Wait at least one minute after SFCU reset to allow self-test to run. - Cycle the flaps from IN/0 degrees to OUT/30 degrees.
- If system checks are good, do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Swap SFCU 1 with SFCU 2.
- If the system checks are good, replace SFCU 1 and do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
- Move the SFCL to a different detent.
- If system checks are good, do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
NOTE: Left motor/brake assembly of the Flap PDU for fault received from SFCU 1. Right motor/brake assembly of the Flap PDU for fault received from SFCU 2.
- Swap flap PDU motor 1 with flap PDU motor 2.
- If system checks are good, replace flap PDU motor 1 and do close out.
- If fault remains, continue with next step.
NOTE: Left PDU motor fault is reported from SFCU 1 and right PDU motor fault is reported from SFCU 2.
- Perform wiring checks between flap PDU motor/brake and the applicable SFCU rack connector.
- If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
- If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
NOTE: Motor internal thermal sensor is checked as follow:From To Expected Result Result A124AP1-98 A124AP1-97 Continuity A95AP1-98 A95AP1-97 Continuity
- Perform torque/backlash check of the flap system.
- If check is normal, do close out.
- If there is friction or drag in the system, continue with next step.
- Repair mechanical defects.
- Do close out.
