Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Reporting LRU: Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU)
System Description: 27-53-00
Schematic Diagram: 27-50-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 27-50-07 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
27-50-08 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

  • Open circuit condition in the thermal sensor located in the Slat Motor.
  • Over temperature condition in the Slat Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor winding.

Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) reports the thermal sensor and over temp (open) for more than 0.5 Second, initiate a normal slat braking sequence.

Possible Causes:

  • Slat Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor 1 (B13)
  • Slat Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor 2 (B14)
  • Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 (A124)
  • Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 2 (A95)
  • Friction/Drag System
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

Can be caused by exceeding duty cycle, cool times may need to be extended in hot environments. If avionics bay fan has been disabled, cooling is greatly reduced to the slat motors.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

WARNING: Make sure that the PDU motors are cool. If the PDU motors were in operation, they can be hot and you can burn your hands.

  1. On the EMS CDU, select CTRL function and SLAT/FLAP RESET.
  2. NOTE: Wait at least one minute after SFCU reset to allow self-test to run.
  3. Cycle the flaps from IN/0 degrees to OUT/30 degrees.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  4. Swap SFCU 1 with SFCU 2.

    1. If the system checks are good, replace SFCU 1 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  5. Move the SFCL to a different detent.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.
NOTE: Left motor/brake assembly of the Slat PDU for fault received from SFCU 1. Right motor/brake assembly of the Slat PDU for fault received from SFCU 2.

  6. Swap slat PDU motor 1 with slat PDU motor 2.

    1. If system checks are good, replace slat PDU motor 1 and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.
NOTE: Left PDU motor fault is reported from SFCU 1 and right PDU motor fault is reported from SFCU 2.

  7. Perform wiring checks between slat PDU motor/brake and the applicable SFCU rack connector.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.
NOTE: Motor internal thermal sensor is checked as follows:

      From To Expected Result Result
      A124AP1-4 A124AP1-3 Continuity
      A95DP1-4 A95DP1-3 Continuity

  8. Perform torque/backlash check of the slat system.

    1. If check is normal, do close out.
    2. If there is friction or drag in the system, continue with next step.

  9. Repair mechanical defects.
  10. Do close out.
