Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

There is a problem with the Right Multi Function Spoiler (MFS) 3 Actuator and detected by the Flight Control Unit 2 channel B. The Right MFS 3 failed to deploy.

Possible Causes:

  • Right Multi Function Spoiler (MFS) Power Control Unit (PCU) 3 (B49)
  • Flight Control Unit (FCU) 2 (A66)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

This fault may sometime be cleared by performing the flight control system reset procedure. If the fault clears, swap FCU positions.

Getting access to the right MFS actuator #3 connector, to check for/remove any corrosion may clear the condition on the a/c.

The right MFS#3 data can be found in CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY SPOILER DATA.
  6. CONFIRM.
  7. Go to sheets 1/3.

And

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY ADVANCED EFCS DATA.
  6. Go to page 3 of 8 and make sure the channel B is active.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect the right MFS 3 connector (B49) to check for corrosion on the pins and sockets.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.
      NOTE: Use contact cleaner.

  2. Swap FCU 2 with FCU 1.

    1. If system checks are good, replace FCU 2. Reset FCUs latched faults and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.
      NOTE: If the fault follows the FCU, it will posted on the right MFS 1.

  3. Perform wiring checks between FCU 2 and MFS 3.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  4. Replace Right MFS 3 PCU.
  5. Do close out.
