Reporting LRU: Flight-Control Unit (FCU) 2
System Description: 27-60-00
Schematic Diagram: 27-60-00 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]
Wiring Diagram: 27-60-08 [ Global Express ]  [ G5000 ]  [ Global XRS ]

Fault Description:

There is a problem with Right Multi-Function Spoiler (MFS) 3 Proximity Switch Sensor (PSS).

Possible Causes:

  • Right Multi-Function Spoiler (MFS) Proximity Switch Sensor (PSS) 3 (MT118)
  • Flight-Control Unit (FCU) 2 (A66)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin: None

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter:

This fault may sometime be cleared by performing the flight control system reset procedure. If the message comes back more then once within 10 flight legs, troubleshooting is required.

Getting access and inspecting to the proximity switch sensor and connector for corrosion may clear the condition on the a/c.

The proximity sensor can be found in CAIMS:

  1. SYSTEM DIAG.
  2. 27-00 FLIGHT CONTROLS.
  3. FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #2.
  4. LRU TEST.
  5. DISPLAY SPOILER DATA.
  6. CONFIRM.
  7. Go to sheets 2/3 and make sure the channel B is active on CAIMS.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Disconnect the right MFS 3 PSS (MT118) to make sure there is no corrosion on the pin/sockets and no corrosion on the a/c structure surrounding the PSS.
    NOTE: Use contact cleaner.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Make sure the PSS is adjusted properly. The clearance between the sensor and the plate must be 0.045 ±0.01 in (1.14 ±0.25 mm).

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Swap FCU 2 with FCU 1.

    1. If system checks are good, replace FCU 2. Reset FCUs latched faults and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.
NOTE: To identify the flight control channel corresponding to the faulty MFS PSS, use the FCU layout.

  4. Perform wiring checks between FCU 2 and right MFS 3 PSS (MT118).

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  5. Replace right MFS 3 PSS (MT118).
  6. Do close out.
