Require immediate crew attention. These messages are accompanied by flashing master warning, triple chime attenson with or without voice message or dedicated tone. Require immediate crew awareness and future crew action may be required in the form of alternate system selection or performance limitation. These message are accompanied by flashing master caution and a single chime. Indicate safe or normal system operation which require crew awareness, over and above the dark cockpit philosophy. Indicate minor failures or reduction in systems capability, which require no crew action.

Fault Description:

Pilot's Master Disconnect Switch is reported failed by the Flight-Control Units (FCUs).

Possible Causes:

  • Pilot Master Disconnect Switch (S45)
  • Flight-Control Unit (FCU) 1 (A65)
  • Flight-Control Unit (FCU) 2 (A66)
  • Associated Wiring

If the fault is intermittent, Access the system diagnostic, perform test of the master disconnect switch:

Make a selection of FLIGHT CONTROL UNIT #1 or #2 as applicable.Make a selection of LRU TEST.From the LRU TEST MENU, make a selection of the applicable test:

  • COCKPIT SWITCHES TEST [FCU 1] or
  • COCKPIT SWITCHES TEST [FCU 2]

Follow the instructions given on the PMAT.Record the results of the test and the Fault Messages.If the cockpit switches test FAILED, continue with this procedure.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

  1. Re-rack fault reported FCU.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  2. Swap FCUs.

    1. If system checks are good, replace defective FCU. Reset FCUs latched faults and do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Perform open/short to ground checks at FCUs as follow:

    Pilot Master Disconnect Switch From To Normal Status Result
    Switch Selected A65AP1-8G A66AP1-8G shorted to ground
    Switch Not Selected A65AP1-8G A66AP1-8G open to ground

    1. If ground checks are good, do close out.
    2. If ground checks are not good, continue with next step.
      NOTE: wires color code on the Pilot Master Disconnect switch:

      PIN (wire color) PIN (wire color) CONTACTS (Switch NOT Selected) CONTACTS (Switch Selected)
      A3 (blue) A2
      (Status)
      CLOSED OPEN
      B3 (violet) B2 (gray) CLOSED OPEN
      C3 (white/black) C2 (white/orange) CLOSED OPEN
      D4 (yellow) D1 (white/gray) OPEN CLOSED

  4. Perform wiring checks between FCUs and Pilot Master Disconnect Switch.

    1. If wiring checks are not good, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  5. Replace Pilot Master Disconnect Switch.
  6. Do close out.
