Fault Description:

Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 is reporting it has an internal failure to CAIMS.

Possible Causes:

  • Slat/Flap Control Unit (SFCU) 1 (A124)
  • Left Slat Resolver (MT77)
  • Right Slat Resolver (MT78)
  • Left Flap Resolver (MT67)
  • Right Flap Resolver (MT72)
  • Slap Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor 1 (B13)
  • Flap Power Drive Unit (PDU) Motor 1 (B11)
  • Associated Wiring

Troubleshooting Tips:

Advisory Wire/Service Bulletin:

Forum Articles/Infoservice/Newsletter: None

This fault could be a nuisance. Disregard this message if the fault is active with no CAS message or was recorded in the CAIMS history without any related CAS message.

The following are a few things that can be done to clear this CAIMS fault:

  • Performing a slat flap reset on the EMS CDU
  • Moving the Slat Flap Control lever to another detent

NOTE: The SFCU INTERNAL FAULT can be caused by an intermittent Flap or Slat Resolver. To avoid unnecessary replacement of the SFCUs, make sure to check CAIMS active or stored faults for any resolver related messages and prioritize those messages first.

Troubleshooting Recommendations:

NOTE: If this CAS message is posted during power-up and swapping SFCU does not fix the fault.

  1. On the EMS CDU, select CTRL function and SLAT/FLAP RESET.
NOTE: Wait at least one minute after SFCU reset to allow self-test to run.
  2. Cycle the flaps from IN/0 degrees to OUT/30 degrees.

    1. If system checks are good, do close out.
    2. If fault remains, continue with next step.

  3. Access CAIMS Active or Stored faults. Are there any other CAIMS messages related to FLAP or SLAT resolvers?

    1. If a Flap Resolver related CAIMS message was recorded, go to step 7.
    2. If a Slap Resolver related CAIMS message was recorded, go to step 9.
    3. If NO, continue with next step.

  4. Swap SFCUs. Repair as required.
NOTE: To avoid the display of any Slat/Flap related CAS nuisance message after replacement of SFCU due to internal failure, follow AW 700-27-0373 instructions.
  5. Execute two consecutive Slats and Flaps electrical rigging using CAIMS (All EICAS messages and CAIMS Active faults related to the Slat Flap Control System must be disregarded throughout the dual electrical CAIMS rigging process). Once the two CAIMS SFCS rigging are completed, perform a complete aircraft power shut down.
  6. Apply power to the aircraft. Is the fault still present?

    1. If YES, go to step 11.
    2. If NO, do close out.

  7. Access the FLAP resolver and perform wiring checks between the resolver and SFCU 1.

    1. If wiring defects are found, repair defective wiring or connector as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  8. Replace the FLAP Resolver and do close out.
  9. Access the SLAT Resolver and perform wiring checks between the resolver and SFCU 1.

    1. If wiring defects are found, repair defective wiring or connector as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  10. Replace the SLAT Resolver and do close out.
  11. Perform wiring checks between SFCU 1 and PDU motor 1.

    1. If wiring defects are found, repair defective wiring as required and do close out.
    2. If wiring checks are good, continue with next step.

  12. Replace PDU.
  13. Do close out.
